Medical Science Liaison (TMS) – Cytokinetics

The Medical Scientist will work as part of the Medical team to support Cytokinetics’ portfolio across the product lifecycle, relay field‑based clinical/medical insights back to the company, and help shape future strategy. Reporting to the Associate Medical Director, the Medical Scientist is a scientific professional who serves as a key field‑based resource for health‑care providers, patients, industry partners, and internal colleagues. This role has high visibility and critical cross‑functional relationships across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development/Operations, and Commercial, and focuses on key opinion leaders in cardiovascular medicine and particularly in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Role And Responsibilities
- Identify key opinion leaders and engage them in proactive and reactive scientific exchange.
- Maintain and enhance scientific collaborations with hospital‑based and office‑based health‑care professionals within defined geographies.
- Facilitate access to educational grant processes and align investigator‑initiated program activities with internal scientific interests.
- Serve as the primary Cytokinetics external Medical Affairs representative in assigned territories, providing disease‑state and product information and facilitating collaborations aligned with strategic goals.
- Ensure timely intake and response to medical information requests.
- Represent Cytokinetics at key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, investigator meetings, and patient advocacy group meetings.
- Collect, report, and represent clinical insights and unanswered questions from external contacts to internal stakeholders.
- Conduct routine literature searches and share learnings with the Medical team.
- Build and maintain a high level of scientific knowledge about disease state, treatment guidelines, current therapies, and emerging medications.
- Understand current trends in clinical research, competitive developments, and patient care.
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs and other internal colleagues on medical information, publications, education, grants, speaker training, and other programs.
- Provide initial and ongoing disease and product training to internal and field personnel.
- Support clinical development programs as a point of contact for company‑sponsored investigators and investigator‑initiated research.
- Generate Field Medical Affairs plans to identify collaborative opportunities.
- Attend relevant congresses and scientific meetings, contribute written conference reports summarizing key information and competitive intelligence.
- Document activities accurately and timely within company databases and platforms.
- Ensure compliance with Cytokinetics policies, local regulations, and legal requirements.
Educational Requirements
- Advanced biomedical sciences degree (Diploma, MD, PharmD, PhD, or Bachelor’s + Master’s in science, totaling at least 5 years of higher education).
Professional Work Experience
- Minimum 3 years of Medical Affairs experience, including field experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting, with a record of significant accomplishment.
- Experience in cardiac diseases (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy/heart failure) or rare diseases is preferred.
- In‑depth knowledge of Medical Affairs organizations and related operating processes, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Knowledge of applicable pharmaceutical regulations, industry rules, guidelines, and medical/clinical terminology.
- Strong business acumen; working knowledge of multidisciplinary drug development functions (research, development, clinical operations, biostatistics, regulatory, commercial).
