We are seeking to recruit for its Legal Directorate (JU), Operational Policy, Mandates and Non‑EU Operations Department (OPS‑POL), Outside Europe A Division (OEU‑A), Latin America and Caribbean Unit (LAC) a Banking and Finance Lawyer – Spanish speaker. This is a full‑time position at grade 5 with a permanent contract.

Purpose

The Outside Europe A (OEU‑A) Division deals with legal documentation and legal issues for projects in Neighbourhood Countries (South), Saharan and Sub‑Saharan Africa, Caribbean, Pacific, Asia, Latin America. The purpose of this position is to provide legal advice and support relating to lending (sovereign/bank/corporate), guarantee transactions, grants and post‑signature work for the EIB projects. In this role, you will handle activities ranging from standard loan agreements to complex structured finance and advanced legal matters.

Accountabilities

• Manage contacts and negotiations concerning the EIB operations handled by the Division, working with documents across multiple jurisdictions and with counterparts in various countries.
• Draft documents, provide advisory legal support, finalize contracts, complete all related legal formalities and conduct post‑signature monitoring.
• Implement contractual documentation specific to the mandates underpinning the Division’s activities.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of grant documentation and other blending related activities.
• Contribute to the development of standard legal documentation outside the EU.
• Coach junior colleagues and paralegals as applicable.
• Participate in horizontal activities of relevance to the Division.
• Liaise with external consultants and supervise their work.
• Conduct legal research on matters and developments significant to the Division’s interests.
• Proactively keep up to date with legislation, regulations and jurisprudence affecting the Division’s activities.
• Develop and maintain relationships within the Bank and represent the EIB externally.

Qualifications

• University degree in law (minimum Bachelor, preferably Master), preferably obtained in a civil law country (a Spanish law degree would be an advantage).
• Legal qualification in a civil law jurisdiction would be an advantage.
• Minimum five years of relevant professional experience in lending and finance, preferably with an international law firm or an in‑house department of a financial institution.
• Significant experience drafting and negotiating loan and finance documentation in English and Spanish.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish; good command of French is an advantage.
